Introduction

Anger is a valid emotion, even in the Christian context.
  • Not all anger is sinful.
  • Anger can lead to positive, redemptive action.
  • How we process and act upon our anger in appropriate ways is most important.

WHAT IS RIGHTEOUS ANGER?
"Righteous anger stems from our response to "ungodly people or activities."* We see a wrongdoing and seek to make it right via redemptive means." True righteous anger results in restoring people into loving, healing relationships with Jesus and one another.
Unrighteous anger emerges from an ungodly response to people and situations. It seeks payback for the perceived wrong and results in destruction of people and relationships.

Reflection on Anger
Consider a time in the past when you were angry about something.
  1. What situation caused you to be angry?
  2. When you look at the situation, were you angry on behalf of others?
Or were you angry because of your own pride? Was this about God’s kingdom or your personal kingdom?
  3. How did you act as a result of your anger?
  4. In retrospect, did you exhibit righteous or unrighteous anger? If unrighteous, how might you have handled it differently?
  5. Are you still carrying this anger and how might you resolve it in a righteous way?

Anger Awareness
As you go through a week, jot down things you notice that make you angry.
Then, at the end of the week, jot down reflections on why you were angry,
